First Snow

This is probably the most photographed - and painted - farm in the town of Glastonbury.

It is not unusual to pass by and see someone pulled over to the side of the road taking a picture with their cell phone, or in some cases a conventional camera, or set up with a painter’s easel. During every season of the year, the view is the same and different.

It has been very cold in this part of the country this fall. Windy and cold.

I am not sure what that means for winter. Are we going to have lots of snow, or almost none?

As first snows go, this was a good one. Not too much. Just enough to be pretty. Not enough to spend a lot of time shoveling.

I like it when it snows just enough to sugar coat everything. I like when the un-cut grass of late summer pokes through the top of the snow cover and adds a few hints of green and yellow to the blanket of white.

I am looking forward to the new year. There is lots to do. I’m having trouble organizing it all and figuring out what the real priorities should be. This early snow helped slow things down and provide some space to think it through.
